The Pressure is on for Marvin Bagley to make Doubters eat their words in Sacramento.

I recall watching Bagley at Duke and he had his share of 30 point performances with double digit rebounds in which I said man we might have the new Kevin Garnett here if Marvin can work on his defense over the off-season. I loved Marvin Bagley’s skillset, he’s like a Kangaroo on the court the

way he jumps off the floor off a miss and lays the ball in off an offensive rebound. The way he pushes the ball up the floor is reminiscent to Lamar Odom being that they are both about the same height and both lefties with a smooth touch. Injuries have derailed Marvin Bagley’s ascension and he was not timid about the chatter of the Kings dropping the ball and not selecting rising Superstar Luka Doncic who is making Mark Cuban look like an absolute genius.

I witnessed the glory days of the Sacramento Kings when Chris Webber and Vlade Divac transformed the Kings into the Sacramento Globetrotters on the court, it was probably the most beautiful style of basketball I had ever witnessed with my own two eyes, the off ball movement from Mike Bibby,Doug Christie, and Peja Stojakovic while Vlade and Chris shredded defenses with no look bounce passes. The Kings fell short of a Championship in the early 2000’s as they suffered a defeat to the Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal led Los Angeles Lakers in a historic 7 Game Series. WIll we ever see the Sacramento Kings in the Western Conference Finals with De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley anchoring the Kings? Most would say it’s a fat NO but it is not out of the realm over the next 5 years.

There are rumblings that Kings’ ownership is not happy with the Kings’ Front Office and Buddy Hield is not happy coming off the bench, the same man Vlade Divac gave a 4 year extension to. Bogdanovic has been starting but was horrible last night against the Dallas Mavericks while Hield at least scored more points and has been productive despite his demotion to the bench. I am not part of the Kings’ front office but the way it’s looking the Kings should mail it in for this season and gear up for next season with hopefully a 100 percent version of Marvin Bagley. I would hate to see Bogdanovic go but he is expected to be upwards of $80 million so probably would not be a good idea to re-sign him with Bagley and Fox due for extensions in the near future. Harry Giles who fell in the draft boards years back has been productive and I love his unselfishness as a big man, I would make him the starting Center going into next season.

Giles plays defense and is an all-around big man, I recall making a video on Bagley,Giles, and Fox a year ago and how I thought they would be the leaders of the Renaissance of the Sacramento Kings. Ultimately the Kings are locked into Barnes and Hield for the next few years so the Kings’ best bet is keep Buddy Hield happy and let Bogdanovic get his money elsewhere. You roll out a lineup of Fox-Hield-Barnes-Bagley-Giles and shoot for the playoffs again next season. The big payoff to going forward with that lineup is Marvin Bagley, De’Aaron Fox has had multiple high scoring games where I’ve seen enough from him to pencil him as the starting Point-Guard for the Kings going into the future. Have I bet satisfied with Fox’s career so far? Somewhat but I do see him becoming an All-Star in the future and possibly MVP candidate over the next few years. Marvin Bagley? Well he needs to get healthy, I think he could be a Top 5 Power-Forward in the NBA over the next decade but he must remain healthy consistently.

I loved Dave Joerger as the coach of the Kings, I believe he had them on the right track although I questioned why he started Nemanja Bjelica over Marvin Bagley in Bagley’s rookie season his comments on how good Marvin Bagley and De’Aaron Fox caught my attention. He likened De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley to Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant 2 of the Top 10 Players in the game today and possibly two of the Top 5 players of this past decade. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant have won MVP Trophies and have Hall-of-Fame worthy resumes so maybe Dave Joerger took quiet a few shots of Whiskey before making that comparison but I see the potential. Marvin Bagley is a baby at 20 years old, De’Aaron Fox is 22 and has plenty of legs left to carry the Kings offense. Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes are both 27 years old and should be able to produce at a good enough level over the duration of their contracts to help Marvin Bagley and De’Aaron Fox on the offensive end. Bogdan Bogdanovic is 27 years old as well but re-signing him all but assures Buddy Hield takes an exit which would not be a good look for the Franchise.

To conclude Marvin Bagley is the key to the Kings’ success, ever heard the quote “Patience if Virtue”. Sometimes that is just the game of Basketball works, great things take time and Marvin Bagley should imprint that in his brain. Not everyone can have the instant success Luka Donvic has obtained, the injury bag has not struck Luka Doncic early on in his career and he’s been able to stay on the floor and establish himself. I just don’t see how a player with his height, versatility, and athleticism doesn’t succeed. Watching him in High School and College I thought he would be the perfect player for an NBA offense since he he can play 3 through 5 and has handles and a refined post-game with decent foot-work. Watching him this season he certainly needs to hit the weight room and develop his upper body and certainly his lower-body so he is able to gather possession down in the paint with ease a lot like Zion Williamson does. He will never have the muscle mass Zion Williamson has but he’s got a good 3-4 inches of height on Zion and I believe quicker on the low-block. Bagley is also an exceptional Rebounder and I believe his defense will go depending on how much stronger he becomes, when I look at Marvin Bagley years from now I believe he will make the doubters eat their words. Bagley is destined for greatness, I know I won’t count him out.
