Where does Anthony Edwards fit in best?

So I am looking at the 2020 NBA Mock Draft and I see the Warriors,Hawks, and Knicks stand at the top of the Draft Boards. I am trying to make sense of where Anthony Edwards will fit in with the Warriors,Hawks,or Knicks being that each respective team already has a Shooting Guard

in place. Klay Thompson,Kevin Huerter, and RJ Barrett won’t lose their starting jobs to Anthony Edwards and that is nothing against Anthony Edwards I just think the Warriors are settled in with a healthy Klay Thompson coming back next year and maybe Atlanta wants to keep featuring Kevin Huerter alongside Trae Young and the Knicks did not draft RJ Barrett to have him come off the bench. Based on what I have seen from Anthony Edwards so far I think he has all the makings of a future Star in the NBA, can he be a Superstar is the real question.

I do see him averaging upwards of 29-30 ppg in his prime but that is 2-3 years down the road, at 6’5 this kid has everything I would want from a Shooting Guard, he has unlimited range and is an exceptional Shot Creator. He can be a bit trigger happy at times but shooters shoot the ball so I do not hold that against him to consistently look for his shot. If he fits in anywhere it would be the Hornets alongside Rozier or Graham, the Hornets don’t really have an answer at the Shooting Guard position and Anthony Edwards I believe is capable of stepping in and becoming the face of that Franchise. I do not know Michael Jordan’s plan with the Charlotte Hornets but they are not a desired destination of marquee Free-Agents at the morning so their best bet is looking to swing a home-run in this coming draft. The Hornets are currently in the running for one of the lower seeds in the Eastern Conference but if I’m the Hornets I hit the tank button and draft Anthony Edwards.

That is just what I would want but in the latest Mock Draft they have him going to the Hawks so it will be interesting to see how the Hawks finish the rest of the season. They currently sit at the bottom of the East but could make a second half-surge lead behind Trae Young and John Collins who showed the league why they are one of the most promising young duos going forward into this Decade. Anthony Edwards originates from Atlanta and boy could you imagine Trae Young running the floor with Anthony Edwards, that would give the Hawks two elite 3 point shooters who can score at a high level. I don’t know what bringing in Edwards would mean for the development of young guards Kevin Huerter and Cam Reddish but they will certainly have the work cut out for them going into next season beating out Anthony Edwards for a starting spot at the 2.

The Knicks can maybe move RJ Barrett over to the 3 to make room for Anthony Edwards at the 2 or maybe the Warriors move Klay Thompson over to the 3 allowing for Anthony Edwards to start alongside Stephen Curry? We could make up all sort of scenarios but if you ask me the Charlotte Hornets would be the perfect home for him. When I look at Anthony Edwards he reminds me of a 6’5 Damian Lillard, that is flat out scary in my opinion and Anthony Edwards is more athletic than Damian Lillard so could you only imagine the type of player Anthony Edwards could be? James Harden took the torch from Kobe Bryant and Ray Allen who lit the 2000’s and were Perennial All-Stars in their time in the NBA. Anthony Edwards is the next Big Time Shooting-Guard in the NBA, I certainly think we will questioning who is the best shooting guard in the game 3 from now.

To conclude I am aware that this coming NBA Draft is being labeled as weak but I believe Anthony Edwards will be a Home-Run for any team that drafts him. He does not have the hype behind him but I know a great player when I see one and he has all the tools to be one. All the big markets have the Superstars but I enjoy seeing a great player uplift a Franchise other than the Knicks or Lakers, the Hornets have not been relevant for quite some time and hopefully Michael Jordan sees the same in Anthony Edwards like I do.
