I am a big Michael Porter Jr fan but unfortunately he is not seeing the playing time I expected him to receive this season but the Nuggets are taking it slow with Porter Jr just like they are doing with second round pick Bol Bol coming out of Oregon. I am not
the biggest college hoops fan but I do keep up with players projected to be picked in the NBA Draft and I was so impressed by Bol Bol’s ability to translate his game to the NCAA. He is 7’2 236 pounds and we all know 7 footers are prone to injuries.
I wish him a speedy recovery and it would be flat out amazing to see him get a chance from Mike Malone and totally destroy the playoffs but we likely won’t see that this season or who knows. Just looking at him he has a light lower body so posting up stronger bigs at the NBA level could be a problem but for a big his size he has good fluidity with the ball in his hands. He has a go to turn around jump-shot which he will be able to shoot over the top of anyone in the NBA and I think he’ll shoot the 3 ball at a 32-40 percent clip through his career which is absolutely great for a center.
Being that the Nuggets play unselfish basketball and the face of their franchise is the epitome of a team first player in Nikola Jokic, I have no doubt Bol Bol will fit in perfectly alongside him. Jokic can work off the post and get it to Bol for spot up threes all over the floor and Bol Bol is skilled enough to pump fake at the top of the key and take his man off the dribble. He definitely needs all the playing time possible in the G-League just to remain ready for a call-up but hopefully he is adding weight to his frame because he will certainly need it.
The Nuggets are really set up more to win in the future but who knows they could win the title this very season if Michael Malone somehow magically fits in Bol Bol and Michael Porter Jr into his rotation and integrates them into the offense. Most would agree that the Nuggets probably won’t win the championship but next season they should definitely be gunning for the title with Michael Porter Jr and Bol Bol ready to make an impact.
To conclude I have not seeing a legitimate center with Bol Bol’s skill set, he reminds me of Kevin Garnett the way he posts up and goes into his turn around jumper it looks so smooth. He plays the game the right way and can serve as a rim protector as well being that he’s athletic and has super huge hands. The wingspan is ridiculous at 7’8, defensively playing the passing lanes he could be absolutely terrorizing and be a 2 way threat. His only real weakness is his lower body, look out NBA world Bol Bol is coming.
