Kevin Durant has won 2 titles but has been criticized for making the move to Golden State. In part I believe he gets so much more criticism than LeBron ever got because the Warriors
were already a Ferrari and Kevin Durant was the twin turbo which has made Golden State an absolute force.
He might be on his way to his third consecutive title but their will be challengers in Houston,Toronto,Milwaukee,Boston, and maybe even Denver but we will have to wait and see playoff time if any of the aforementioned teams could push the Warriors to 7 games and a possible upset.
Looking at the New York Knicks they are guaranteed to draft in the 1-5 range in this coming draft with a chance to draft Zion Williamson or RJ Barrett two of the most complete prospects we have seen since Anthony Davis. Is Kevin Durant willing to be patient with the Knicks’ young pieces in Kevin Knox,Mitchell Robinson, Alonzo Trier, and Dennis Smith Jr the same way LeBron James elected to do with Brandon Ingram,Kyle Kuzma, and Lonzo Ball? We will have to wait and see this July.
Some feel Kevin Durant is content competing for titles the next 4-5 years of his career with Stephen Curry but we must take into account that things could be a lot different if Klay Thompson elects to sign elsewhere. Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry shouldering the load will keep them in the mix but Klay Thompson is the key to Golden State’s sustainability when it comes to continuing piling up titles. When you can play with arguably the 2 best 3 point shooters the NBA has witnessed in its 73 years of existence, that would be extremely hard to turn down.
The New York Knicks have close to $73 million in cap space so they could give Kevin Durant a max-contract and sign another all-star like Jimmy Butler or Kemba Walker and immediately become a contender in the Eastern Conference next season. How would the Knicks’ fan base view Kevin Durant if he were to lead them to their first Eastern Conference Finals since 1999 which was 20 years ago? That would be a great accomplishment for Kevin Durant’s career because despite winning 2 consecutive Finals MVP’s few view him as equal to LeBron James or better.
I would have never thought Kevin Durant would play for the New York Knicks but he should take on the challenge of bringing the Knicks back to the top, Clyde Frazier and Charles Oakley both Knick legends don’t think Kevin Durant would make the leap because of his history of being sensitive to criticism. The New York Post and Daily News would have a field day with Kevin Durant if he can’t manage to get the Knicks into the playoffs next year, LeBron James failed to lead the Lakers to the playoffs his first season so why wouldn’t Kevin Durant be able to handle the New York media? Kevin Durant has developed a care-less attitude over the years and he knows sometimes you just have to block the noise. He’s a 2 time champion and no one can take that from him, the pressure is off in New York.
