The Nets have a very deep roster full of young players which Kenny Atkinson is molding into productive NBA players. Some of the names are Joe Harris who has become a proficient 3 point shooter snd Spencer Dinwiddie who is
enjoying a breakout season in an expanded role due to Russell being out for 2 months. The center they drafted Jarrett Allen has enjoyed a solid season so far serving as a lob threat and go to option on pick and rolls where he has been able to utilize his athleticism and length to his advantage.
Allen figures to be the starting center going forward and possible franchise cornerstone, he has potential to be a Marcus Camby. He has solid footwork on the low block and can finish around the basket with dunks and use pivot moves to fake out defenders and finish with lay-ins and jumphooks. Imagine once he develops a respetable jumper and fills out his frame? Look out NBA.
Anyways on to Zion Williamson who will play at Duke next season. I assume he’ll be one and done, at 6’6 and 270 pounds Zion Williamson possesses a NBA ready frame who can play the small forward and be used as a small ball 4 or even 5 just because of how strong and physical he is. Zion invites contact and does not shy away from it, he is selling out gyms at the high school level and has become a Lebron type phenom.
He is a lefty with a Lebron type charge to the basket the way he ducks and uses his unbelievable frame and athleticism to overpower defenders through traffic. The elevation and dunking ability rivals dunking legends Dominique Wilkins and Vince Carter, you can pretty much say he’s Wilkins-Lebron-Carter in the dunking department with a sprinkle of Shawn Kemp, that is downright terrifying. If he does have any weakness it would be his perimeter game but even at the high school level he is already showing the ability to create off the dribble and shooting jumpshots. Expect him to become a more then reliable shooter at Duke and be a lock for the top 5 in the 2019 NBA Draft.
We will see where Brooklyn stands when that time comes, as it stands they don’t project to win 40 games anytime soon so they might have a shot at bringing the Zion Williamson show to Brooklyn. The Nets severely need a player who will bring the excitement back to Brooklyn, I’m from New Jersey and you can bet your last dollar I’ll be at the Brooklyn arena to watch Zion bring the house down with his aerial attacks.
To conclude the Nets have a lot of solid pieces. I myself believe they should re-sign Spencer who has been an unbelievable play maker for the Nets and plays with a confidence a lot of point guards in the NBA today lack. Move Russell down to the 2 where he is better served as a shooter and scoring option, I do not think he has or ever will develop the pass first mentality he needs to become a point guard, that is one reason Magic drafted Lonzo Ball who is a true floor general. Draft Zion to be the 3 and Allen should be a top 10 center by next season. So you have Spencer at the 1, Russell at the 2,Zion at the 3, Hollis-Jefferson at the 4(or sign or trade a more formidable stretch 4) with Allen at the 5? Sean Marks you worked the miracle no one saw happening after Billy King sunk the ship stripping the Nets of picks.
