I used to watch Jordan through his second 3 peat and the game of basketball was so much more entertaining. Yes the league has trascended into a league with more athletic wings and more skillful bigs who are playing like guards such as superstars Anthony Davis,DeMarcus Cousins, and Kristaps Porzingis but
everything is a foul.
Kristaps Porzingis is the latest superstar to complain about getting hit on his arms when he shoots resulting in his shot being affected, what if he played in the 90’s against a physical big like Charles Oakley? The game is definitely more perimeter oriented then ever but don’t you miss the days where you could use your hands to slow down your opponent and use your body to have an advantage over smaller guards?
The NBA has evolved into highlight dunks and fast pace with a barrage of 3 pointers every game which is very entertaining but I prefer old school basketball. Less fouls, more trash talking, more entertaining if you ask me. The game was played for passion more then money and the competition was more fierce.
That is why Michael Jordan will forever be the greatest player of all-time to me, he averaged over 30 ppg and was a 10 time scoring champion when you had to earn highlight dunks. You had to think twice before driving the lane trying to dunk over a 7 foot shot blocker and Michael Jordan soared over a ton of hall of fame bigs like Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo.
He worked for his championship rings and never joined his competition. That is why his glory was that much sweeter, nothing against superstars Kevin Durant and Lebron James who have chosen their own routes to become champions. I love the up and down frantic pace and 3 point shooting but it’s harder for me to watch a full NBA game now because the constant fouls ruin the flow of the game.
To conclude I feel the NBA has become more like the WWE in which the product has become a bit censored. For example the WWE is now a more watchable product for younger kids, back when I watched the WWE which was formerly known as the WWF profanity was allowed and I probably wouldn’t let my son watch it with me if he was young. The NBA has changed the game by taking away hand checking to allow players to score more easily with less contact. I miss the attitude the NBA used to have, the Bad Boy Pistons and Pat Riley’s led Knicks.
