Terry Rozier is currently playing behind superstar guard Kyrie Irving who is on the Celtics’s books for another 2 seasons before Danny Ainge decides if he is worth re-signing. Kyrie Irving is the best ball handler the NBA has ever seen and brings back flashes of legend Kobe Bryant with his shot making ability and being and aggressive scorer, ask yourself who is
the most complete scorer in the game?
Most would say Kevin Durant,Lebron James, or even James Harden who has become an elite player but neither of those three has a more refined post-game then Kyrie, which is what set Kobe Bryant apart from everyone in his era. Terry Rozier plays a lot like Kyrie Irving and is a pesky defender to gets to his spots a lot like Kyrie Irving does. He is not the jump-shooter Kyrie Irving is but he has that ability to knock down 3 point shots whether it is off the catch or off the dribble. In a game against Indiana Terry Rozier stole an inbound pass and flushed it emphatically for a one handed jam to clinch a Celtics victory over the surging Indiana Pacers led by breakout star Victor Oladipo.
6’2 190 is a perfect size for a point guard, if Isaiah Thomas and Allen Iverson were able to dominate offensively and were smaller in stature why can’t Terry? Not saying Terry will be better then both those guys but he is only 23 years and playing behind Kyrie Irving, imagine how much he is learning from Kyrie Irving right now and the experiences he will go through over the next 1-2 years in Boston assuming Boston does not move him before he becomes a restricted free agent 2019.
I’d like to believe Danny is going all in with Kyrie for the long haul and will likely re-sign him before he even hits free agency making Rozier’s chances of staying in Boston a lot more slimmer. Terry said he knows he is a starter in this league and his time will come, I agree with him I mean he is in an ideal situation in Boston under arguably the best coach in the game aside from Gregg Popovich. Look at the amount of success Stevens has been able to have even after losing Gordon Hayward their prized free-agent, the Celtics sit at the top of the Eastern Conference and Stevens showed everyone he knows how to beat Golden State.
Couple playing under Brad Stevens, having Kyrie to learn from, and possibly winning a championship from now till when you become a free agent and imagine the type of player teams could be getting in Terry Rozier? Will he be worth the max? Most likely not but is it out of the realm that he can become a top 10 point guard in the NBA in a new home? Absolutely. Terry Rozier can break down defenders with his superb ball handling ability and packs more explosiveness then Kyrie Irving ever has, again not trying to diminish Kyrie Irving but that is just the facts, Rozier can get above the rim and utilizes his athleticism and quickness to blow by defenders on fast-breaks or coming off screens.
To conclude sometimes you can tell by a player’s approach to the game and their self-confidence and assess how good they will be. Rozier has confidence in his abilities and knows he is a starter in the NBA, it’s simple soak as much knowledge as possible from Kyrie Irving and Brad Stevens who are two of the brightest basketball minds in the NBA and be ready to put it all on display when it comes time to sign a new contract and show the world what happens what comes from sacrificing a few years of development.
