Ben Simmons is 6-10 230 pounds and combines athleticism with an ahead of the curve NBA body. His transition to the NBA is similar to Blake Griffin who nursed an injury his rookie season but exploded onto the NBA scene with the Clippers and averaged 20 points per game his first season.
Ben Simmons is currently averaging 17 ppg to go with 9 rpg and close to 8 assists per contest, those are
pretty insane stats for a rookie and he might be having the best all-around rookie of any player all-time but he lacks heart.
Hear me out when I say I have been watching the Sixers up til this point and have noticed Joel Embiid is the real alpha out on the court. The once in a life-time big man was awarded with a $148 million dollar deal over 5 seasons to carry the Sixers, he has every skill-set you could ever ask for in a big man and the mentality of a Shaquille O’Neal on the offensive end.
Ben Simmons who is most often compared to Lebron James who is one of the league’s best athletes and combines court-vision with brute strength to over power his opponents can not follow Lebron James’s style of play if he really wants to dominate the sport. Nothing against Lebron James who is one of the best to ever do it he’s a pass first player at heart and has made a reputation for getting his stats and checking out of games. Ben Simmons uses his size and superb velocity with the ball to out run defenders on fast breaks a-lot like Lebron has done over the course of his career. He reminds me of Magic Johnson the way he pushes the ball up the floor, but one thing that separates Magic and Ben is that yes Magic set up his teammates but he always came through clutch when it mattered.
Ben Simmons is a for sure all-star going into the future but to become a superstar he must be more aggressive over the course of all 4 quarters and demand the ball in late game situations. During the triple overtime game against the Thunder Ben Simmons brought the ball up the floor with no confidence and it just seemed like he was going to drive and pass instead of drive and score.
He instead deferred to Embiid which is not a bad idea at all but let’s remember both Kobe and Shaq were killers on the court which resulted in their dynasty with the Lakers. Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid have potential to start a dynasty on the Sixers but Ben must focus more on being a scoring option instead of trying to rack up assists and rebounds. Become an ALL-NBA defender and improve your perimeter game, then you’ll become the best.
