Lonzo Ball must become his own man to succeed in the NBA.

I examine Lonzo Ball and I see a very humble kid who has an immense future ahead of him. Kyrie Irving before the season started said Lonzo Ball needed to be his own man and get from under his father’s wings and fly away much like he did with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Lebron James looked at Kyrie Irving as his side-kick but Kyrie knew he would never get his due if the Cavaliers won, he was just as important for the Cavs during the 3 game comeback on the Golden State Warriors yet Lebron James was the Finals MVP. The Cavaliers lose and Kyrie Irving was a trade target, Lebron referred to Kyrie as a kid when he wished him well on his new journey in Boston.

Back to Lonzo Ball who is son of booming celebrity Lavar Ball who most would agree is way more out there and a lot more expressive then Lonzo Ball has been. His father makes outrageous comments and a lot of NBA fans look at the man as a troll although he is a joy to watch and brings a lot of charisma. Lavar Ball carries expectations for Lonzo Ball, very lofty ones proclaiming his son to be better then 2-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry which is something Lavar Ball has got loads of criticism for. Lebron James had a talk with Lonzo Ball after the game and there has been speculation about whether he was speaking to Lonzo about possibly joining the Lakers.

The truth of the matter sometimes most of us do not grow up and become the best versions of ourselves because we have friends, family, parents, teachers, etc telling us how we should live, what we should do,what is best for us and only we know that deep inside. Same goes for Lonzo Ball who up til now has had a couple really good games, scoring 29 points logging 11 assists and 9 rebounds against the Phoenix Suns earlier this season. He scored 17 points at the Garden and logged 13 points 11 assists and 8 versus the Cavaliers in a close game losing 121-112 to Lebron’s Cavaliers. Lonzo Ball receives a lot of the same expectations Lebron faced coming into the league, he must block out the noise and just play his game. Stop worrying if you miss that jumper just let it fly, stop caring if people don’t like your jump-shot leave it as is, if it works for you fine.

The media needs something to write about so of course with Lebron James’s impending free-agency they need something to write about and Lebron James is giving them something to write about and make a story of. As long as Lebron gets what he wants in Cleveland and knocks off the Warriors this season I do not see him leaving, I can’t see Lebron losing another Finals series to Golden State so assuming he loses in the earlier rounds he will likely stay in the East where he can easier coast through regular seasons and compete in the playoffs.

In conclusion Lonzo Ball could use all the mentoring possible on this young Lakers team where he does not really have someone who can show him the ropes a lot like Jarrett Jack and Ramon Sessions are doing for rookie Frank Ntilkina who the Knicks are slowly bringing along. Lonzo Ball is starting for one of the most accomplished organizations in the history of the NBA and is the #2 overall pick and has been given the keys by Magic Johnson to bring the Lakers back to the top, have patience with the kid because make no mistake about it the talent is there but I sure did not have my life figured out at his age and I still don’t, he’ll be special.
