Standing at 6’5 205 pounds Grayson Allen is a Senior at Duke and a projected late 1st round pick. Grayson Allen is known to be sort of a hothead and is known for his immature actions out on
the basketball floor, Mike Krzyzewski is a legendary coach in the NCAA and might be the greatest college coach ever and has had his share of run-ins with the kid.
But enough about Grayson’s attitude, let’s talk about his talent and how it can translate to the NBA. Judging off what I have seen from Grayson Allen during his time in Duke he will certainly have no problem adapting to the NBA pace where floor-spacing is very important and having shooters to spread the court.
Grayson Allen plays with grit and is mentally tough, you can play him at point guard, shooting guard, and even small-forward since the NBA is putting out 4 floor-spacers and one center in the paint to protect the rim and pull down boards. Grayson Allen brings a combination of superb-ball handling, playmaking ability, he can shoot off the catch, off the dribble, create his own shot by breaking down his defender and pulling up for 3 pointers or mid-range jumpers.
He also has a knack for driving and making the right pass whether it is to a open shooter or a dump-in to someone in the paint for a lay-in or dunk. If I had to compare Grayson Allen to anyone in the NBA I would certainly say he is a JJ Redick-Manu Ginobili hybrid, one because he has Manu Ginobili’s speed and ball handling ability and can also finish at the rim.
He reminds me off JJ Redick because their body types are similar, Grayson stands at 6’5 205 while JJ Redick stands at 6’4 190 pounds but Grayson can do everything Redick does which is come off screens and shoot jumpers, hit spot up jumpshots, and Grayson of course really good court vision something Manu Ginobili possesses and has helped the Spurs win multiple titles, Manu’s combination of playmaking, shooting, and grit on defense and offense perfectly complimented Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich who always preached a self-less attitude and making the extra pass as well as defending.
As of now Grayson Allen is projected in the 25-30 range on 2018 Mock Drafts, maybe he rises as the season prolongs but he would be excellent under Gregg Popovich, question is how much longer will Gregg Popovich coach? Most of us would agree he’ll coach at least 2-3 more years coaching Kawhi Leonard one of the best 2 way forces we have seen since Michael Jordan retired.
I am no basketball scout but I know an NBA player when I see one on TV and Grayson Allen has NBA talent and can certainly become a star in the NBA, a superstar 1st ALL NBA player I highly doubt he will be that good but I could see him make a couple All-Star teams in his NBA career, let me know what you guys think.
